Dog tooth Tuna

Post by Steve Ward » Thu Dec 04, 2008 6:50 am

I just had a guy on site here at work that has a new 40ft Rivera based out of Dar-es-Salaam and he sent me these pic's of a dog tooth tuna they got a couple of weeks ago out at Latham Island. it weighed in at 99.5 Kg's and had been on the boat for over 12 hours before weighing so would of given the IGFA world record of 104.5 a good go

Thats one huge doggie Steve!! On the subject of tuna, do we get many offshore Esperance? Ever caught any?

Hey Rusty wheres the salmon been running lately? I'm coming home after xmas and keen to have a fish, even though its not the best time of the year for it. I'll probaly try Roses, Warrenup and Dunns for starters.

salmon

Post by rusty » Fri Dec 05, 2008 3:36 am

Warrenup and roses are all firing for salmon, a commercial guy told me the other day of some massive schools coming through down in the bight so generally as a rule xmas is salmon time, i went down to the 11 mile the other night after work and there were a couple getting some nice 2 -3 kg salmon off the beach right at the bottom of the trail and they recon they had been getting them all last mth so "u" should be in luck mate..

Great thanks Rusty, sounds promising!! I'll bring my shark gear down too...send a live salmon out in hope of enticing a big bronzie to have a play.

Cheers

Hi Woody
Poison creek is another good spot for salmon, roses is always good and you always get big bronzies around then as well.
We get lots of southern bluefin tuna in summer, i havnt gone after them before but am going to have a go this break, out from the duke there is supposed to be plenty of big ones through summer, i know they come in as close as woody island, always heaps of smaller tuna around as well

Gday Steve, thanks for the reply. I love Poison but find that over holiday breaks its too crowded with goldfields folk for my liking...had a couple of bad experiences!! I find the crowds dont tend to head west as much that time of year.

As for the bluefin, what would you troll behind with, lures or skirts etc?

Cheers

Woody

Was the dog tooth taken on a Halco lure?
Totally awesome fish!
